"Sponges have been known and used since ancient times. Bath sponges represent only a small part of the diversity of today's known sponge species in the world. These sponges exist in lakes and rivers as well. Today, there are over 8,000 species of sponges in the world, and the Mediterranean Sea itself contains about 10%. Sponges can be massive, spherical or tree-like, encrusted with different thicknesses and in varying colors.
The same species can vary in shape and color depending on where it grows. It is said that the sponges are PLASTIC, in the sense that their appearance may vary, particularly depending on the environment (light, hydrodynamics).
